Scholarship Program

All high school graduates in the East Montgomery County Improvement District are now guaranteed a great start to their college education.

The East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID), in partnership with Lonestar College District will make $1,000 available to each graduate to be used for tuition and fees at Lone Star College System, Kingwood College, Tomball College, Montgomery College and Cy-Fair College. It must be used within 24 months of high school graduation.

EMCID was created by an act of the Legislature and approved by a vote of the residents of New Caney and Splendora Independent School Districts for the purpose of improving the quality of life in east Montgomery County. The improvement district is funded through a one and one half cent sales tax, and is managed by a President/CEO and a Board of Directors. EMCID created this endowed scholarship to promote the economic, social and cultural development of the area through education.

Who is eligible?

All EMCID students who have graduated from New Caney or Splendora High Schools, a private high school, have been home-schooled or received a GED certificate are eligible.

How much is the scholarship?

Each graduate is eligible for $1,000 to be used only for tuition and fees for credit and eligible non-credit programs. Students have 24 months to use the funds.

Where can I use the scholarship?

Students can choose to attend Lone star College (which is utilized most frequently due to the close proximity) or students may choose to enroll in another accredited college, or even a four year university. The Financial Aid office on most campuses can assist the student applicant with the final paperwork.

How do I apply?

As a graduate of New Caney or Splendora High Schools, your name is already on the list of students eligible to receive this assistance. If you graduated from a private high school, we will need a copy of your high school transcript. If you were home-schooled, official documentation verifying the completion of your home-school requirements will be necessary. If you completed your GED, proof of test, completion is required. In addition, all students will need to fill out the attached scholarship form, which will help us with our recordkeeping. We ask that you allow the college to release academic information to EMCID for tracking purposes.
