The East Montgomery County Improvement District has once again teamed up with our Constable's office to provide additional security during the holiday shopping season. EMCID will pay up to $50,000 for extra patrols as part of the Safe Shopper Program, an effort aimed at reducing shoplifting and other crimes in several high-traffic areas between October 15 and January 15, 2018.
"We are proud to partner with EMCID to make this event successful," said Constable Rowdy Hayden. "We want to make sure that our citizens are in a safe environment while shopping during this Holiday season."
This is the sixth year for the program. When averaged over a 30-day period and compared between the program's first year in 2012 and last year, data show that shoplifting arrests dropped 35 percent, vehicle burglaries were down 29 percent, and misdemeanor arrests decreased by 31 percent. Felony arrests and warnings both increased by 180 percent.
